BLOG TOUR - THE MEAN GIRL APOLOGIES BY STEPHANIE MONAHAN

Title: Mean Girl Apologies
Author: Stephanie Monahan

BLURB supplied by Sizzling PR
You know that catchy song you keep hearing on the radio?
It’s about you.
Natalie Jamison has spent five years trying to forget the girl she was in high school: popular, pretty…and, okay, mean. Now in her twenties and living once again in her small town, she’s right back where she was: following Queen Bee Amber and keeping secrets from her best friend, Sarah.
Secrets like Jack Moreland.
Everyone knows Jack Moreland—his new album, Good Enough, is everywhere. He’s famous. Impossibly handsome. Completely untouchable. But what none of Natalie’s old clique knows is that in high school, Natalie and Jack fell in love. And their secret relationship was incredible, painful—and earth-shattering enough to inspire an entire album.
Facing friends and enemies isn’t easy, but Natalie will go to great lengths to prove she is good enough—to her friends, to herself, and most of all, to the small-town boy turned worldwide heartthrob she never forgot.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW
What is your name, where were you born and where do you live now?
Stephanie Monahan. I was born in upstate New York and now I live in central
Massachusetts.

Did you always want to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?
Yes! Writing is all I’ve ever really wanted to do. I wrote my first “book” when I was
six or seven years old. I would always type up stories on my mom’s typewriter and
leave them for her to read.

Did it take a long time to get your first book published?
My first book, 33 VALENTINES, happened really quickly! I had actually been
working on another manuscript for several years and I put it aside to write for
a Valentine’s Day call for submissions from Entangled Publishing. Originally 33
VALENTINES was a novella. The editor loved it and wanted me to expand it into a
full novel, which took me about four months. It was a wonderful writing experience.
(The manuscript I set aside turned out to be my second release with Entangled, THE
MEAN GIRL APOLOGIES).

Do you work another job as well as your writing work?
Yes, I have a full time job in Human Resources at a health insurance company. I
love both of my jobs, though sometimes it is difficult to find the time to write when
sometimes I want to just relax after a long day. But it’s a good problem to have!

What can we expect from you in the future? ie More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?
I love women’s fiction, romantic comedy, New Adult and young adult. So any of
these are definitely possibilities for the future!

If you had to choose to be one of your characters in your book/books which would you be? and why?
I would love to spend time in Jack’s shoes from THE MEAN GIRL APOLOGIES, traveling the world and being creative. Although I don’t think being followed by the paparazzi would be much fun, I’d find a way to handle it.

Do you read all the reviews of your book/books?
Even though my husband tells me not to read the reviews, of course I read them!
Maybe there will be a day when I’ve been doing this long enough and will have
trained myself not to, but for now, I read them.

Have you ever suffered from a "writer's block"? What did you do to get past the "block"?
The only times this happens to me is when I’m trying too hard. So usually I’ll just
walk away, take a break, do something else, for hours or even days. Once I let myself
recharge, I’m good to go.

Have you ever based characters on people you know or based events on things that have happened to you?
I did a three-day stint in a flower shop once, right around the time I wrote 33
VALENTINES, so I made the heroine, Sophie, a part-time florist. We were equally
bad at it.

What is your favourite book and Why? Have you read it more than once?
I have a few books that really affected me but if I had to choose only one I’d say
THIS LULLABY by Sarah Dessen. I love everything about it –the characters, the tone,
everything! It was actually the book that convinced me I needed to try to write
seriously and get published. I’ve read it many times and I will probably read it again
this summer.

What piece of advice would you give to a new writer?
Write, write, write! And read. And get used to revising and editing. You have to
embrace revision if you want to produce something good.

If you could invite three favourite writers to dinner, who would you invite and enjoy chatting with?
Sarah Dessen,  Margaret Atwood, and Stephen King. I think that would make for an
awesome dinner party!
Thanks so much for having me on your site!

[You're welcome! And yes that dinner party would be really interesting!]
